Yorkshire Juniors raise cash for Cancer Research UK

THE BADMINTON PLAYER’S PRAYER

Oh Lord give me the strength to run the hills
Without the need for energy pills
To endure the downpour of the rain
Ignoring the blisters and the pain
To bear the track shoes as they rub
“Some of us older ones could have been at the pub”

Move to the circuit with “her indoors”
Off goes the whistle, down the sweat pours
Then on to the team fitness relays and more
The energy comes, but from where I don’t know

Then sit ups, and stretches to ease aching limbs
You think you’ve just finished
Then “dodge ball” begins

My body is aching
My brain has gone numb
It’s the end of the session
I think it’s been fun

A. Victim

Over 30 badminton players, a mixture of senior and junior players
attended  "2007 Summer Conditioning" sessions on Tuesday evenings
at Woodkirk School, just outside Leeds.

The sessions were free of charge but players were asked to make
a small donation. As a result of this we were able to send
£250 to Cancer Research UK.

The donation was “gift aided” which means that approximately another
£80 will be claimed back from the government.
